Well… That Didn’t Go As Planned

Has that ever happened to anybody else? You make a whole plan for your week, convince yourself you're about to accomplish ALL the things, and then life basically looks at your list and says, “Yeah… we're not doing that.”

That was me this week.

I went into my first week with my new schedule ready to be Bob the Builder. I had plans for all the things I wanted to get done around the house, projects I wanted to tackle, content I wanted to create, and, of course, plenty of time to enjoy my garden and get some exercise.

Wouldn't you know it… I hurt myself.

Come have a seat, and I'll tell you about it.

So there I was Monday morning, ready to mow the backyard, jump in the pool for my exercise, and then reward myself with a nice little nap. And honestly, I did manage to do some of all of that.

The problem was what happened before I started.

I stepped into a hole in the yard that I had absolutely no idea was there.

It wasn't just because the grass had grown over it. I also realized something while I was sitting there nursing my injury: I haven't really been still since we moved to Virginia.

It's been pedal to the metal from the jump.

Between work, the house, the garden, cooking, creating content, trying to build my businesses, and everything else life has thrown at me, I've basically been running on go-go-go.

Apparently, my body decided it was time for a meeting.

And the injury itself? Honestly, insulting.

I pulled the tendon in my left thumb.

My left thumb.

I'm left-handed.

Of course I am.

At first, I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it. Out of everything I could have hurt, I managed to injure the hand I use for basically everything.

But the more I thought about it, the more I started wondering if maybe there was a little lesson in all of this.

Maybe it's ironic that I'm left-handed and injured my left hand.

Or maybe God is simply telling me, “Girl, sit down.”

Maybe this is my reminder to slow down, rest, and lean on Him as I step into this next level I'm working toward.

Because sometimes we make plans for ourselves without realizing that we might need to leave a little room for God's plans, too.

So, am I going to sit around and do absolutely nothing while my hand heals?

Absolutely not.

I may have to slow down, but I refuse to stop.

Today, I'm pulling my Brussels sprouts.

The bugs have been having themselves a whole feast out there, and I'm officially taking my harvest back! 😂 I'm going to share the process over on my social media, so if you've been following along with the garden, you'll get to see how it goes.

This week definitely didn't turn out the way I pictured it. But maybe that's okay.

I'm learning that resting doesn't mean I'm failing, slowing down doesn't mean I'm falling behind, and changing the plan doesn't mean the plan is over.

Sometimes you just have to adjust, laugh at yourself, thank God you're okay, and keep moving forward — just maybe at a slightly slower speed.

And apparently, with both hands where I can keep an eye on them. 😂

Here's to healing, harvesting, and figuring out what this next chapter is supposed to look like — one day at a time.
