Garden update: did we go to big

Published on 4 May 2026 at 15:28

So… I went out to check on the garden, and I had a moment.

You know that feeling when everything starts growing at once and you’re like… wait a minute… did we plant too much? Yeah. That’s where I’m at right now.

Things are definitely thriving—which is amazing—but I’m starting to realize we might have gotten a little ambitious this season. Especially when it comes to one thing in particular…

Let’s Talk About the Brussel Sprouts 😅

We have a lot of brussel sprouts.

Like… a lot a lot.

At the time, it felt like a great idea. We use them, they’re healthy, they go with everything—why not plant more? But now that they’re growing in and doing their thing, I’m starting to picture my future filled with brussel sprouts in every possible form.

Roasted, sautéed, shredded in salads… I’m about to become the brussel sprout person.

Not mad about it—but also slightly questioning my decisions 😂

The Reality of Growing Your Own Food

This is definitely one of those “learning as you go” moments.

When you’re planning a garden, everything sounds reasonable… until it all actually grows. Then suddenly you’re doing the math on how many meals you can realistically make and wondering who else you can feed.

That said, it’s still one of the most rewarding things. Watching everything come up, seeing what works, and figuring it out along the way—it’s all part of it.

From Garden to Kitchen

One thing I am excited about is finding new ways to use everything we’re growing. This is exactly what I’ve been working toward—connecting what I grow with what I cook.

So if you see a sudden increase in brussel sprout recipes… just know why 😂

Come See It for Yourself

I shared a quick video walking through the garden so you can see what I mean (especially the brussel sprouts situation). It really puts things into perspective.

Let me know—have you ever planted something and then realized you might have gone a little overboard?
