Harvest, Hustle & Homemade Lunch

Some days don't feel extraordinary while you're living them, but when you look back, they're exactly the days that remind you why simple moments matter.

With my parents away on vacation, the house was quiet. Instead of treating it like a chance to relax, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to tackle a deep clean. Music on, windows open, and one room at a time, I scrubbed, organized, and reset everything. There is something incredibly satisfying about watching a home transform from lived-in chaos back into a peaceful space.

After earning a break, I decided to step outside my comfort zone in the kitchen. Lunch became an adventure.

Today's star was North African-inspired chicken thighs tucked into warm pita bread. Before they ever hit the pan, they soaked in a fresh herb marinade made almost entirely from my garden. I grabbed celery leaves, basil, dill, rosemary, garlic, and a few other fresh herbs that were ready to harvest. There is something incredibly rewarding about walking outside, picking ingredients with your own hands, and turning them into a meal just minutes later. Those fresh herbs gave the chicken a bright, earthy flavor that dried seasonings simply can't match.

To finish the pita, I spread on a creamy sauce that blended the freshness of tzatziki with the bold flavors of Caesar and ranch. It was one of those combinations that shouldn't have worked as well as it did—but every bite proved otherwise.

On the side, I made a refreshing watermelon, cucumber, and fresh mint salad. The sweet watermelon, cool cucumber, and mint from the garden brought a light, crisp contrast to the warm, herb-packed chicken. It tasted like summer in a bowl.

The day wasn't just about cooking and cleaning, though. My husband and I also spent time working together in the office. Anyone who works with their spouse knows it has its moments. Sometimes you're perfectly in sync, and sometimes you're reminding each other to stay focused. But at the end of the day, building a life together means learning how to work together too. Every project, every conversation, and every challenge helps us become a stronger team.

Today wasn't flashy or glamorous. It was cleaning, cooking, harvesting from the garden, working, laughing, and sharing a meal. Those ordinary days are often the ones that end up meaning the most.

Sometimes the best adventures happen right at home—and sometimes they begin in the garden.
